Christmas Decor for a Small Apartment

Living in a small apartment doesn't offer many options for elaborate holiday decor. With a little ingenuity, however, I've created a lovely holiday-themed apartment. A miniature lighted Christmas tree carefully placed on my side table greets visitors as they enter my home. Making good use of my front room window, I have adorned it with decor, using tinsel and garland, as well as miniature stockings hung with suction cups. As a festive alternative, you might try hanging shiny ornaments on the window in much the same way. If your apartment is designed with a staircase, decorate the banister. Use garland, tinsel, holly or even holiday greeting cards. Finally, if your apartment is furnished with a fireplace, decorate the mantel. I've placed a two-foot tall animated and musical Santa on my mantel. I hope my blog gives you some fun decorating ideas for your small home.

Creating An Effective Design For Your Property's New Fence

by Luke Patterson

Mistakes when designing or installing a fence can be a significant issue that has the potential to compromise the look of the new fence as well as the results that it provides in terms of enhanced security or privacy.

Not Considering the Potential Of A Pet Tunneling Under The Fence

If you are installing the new fence to help keep pets on your property, you should avoid overlooking the prospects of them tunneling under the fence to escape. While a person may assume that there is little that can be done to prevent this from occurring, there are actually several strategies that can be used to make it harder for a pet to dig under the fence. One of these options can be the placement of a barrier under the fence. This can be either chain link or even thick rubber barriers that will discourage your pet from attempting to dig under it. Additionally, it is possible to bury the fence posts to further reduce this risk.

Not Opting For A Motorized Entry Gate For The Fence

The entry gate for the fence is an important component of the property's accessibility. For the most convenient option, you can opt for a motorized gate. These gates can be controlled with a remote that you may keep in your vehicle. In addition to sparing you the labor of having to exit your vehicle to open the gate, this can also help to keep you safer during periods of strong storms as you will not have to venture into the elements to open the gate. During a lightning storm, this can be especially hazardous as the lightning may be drawn to the metal that is used in the gate.

Overlooking The Shadow That The Fence Could Cast On The Ground

When you are deciding on the placement of the new fence, you may want to be mindful of the shadow that it can cast on the ground. This shadow may potentially impact the growth of the plants on your property. When you are reviewing the placement options for the fence, the shadow will be an important factor to consider. Otherwise, you may have to move your plants, which can be costly or even risky. However, accurately estimating where the shadow will be located can improve your ability to place the fence so that the effects on the light level of important plants will be minimized.
