Christmas Decor for a Small Apartment

Living in a small apartment doesn't offer many options for elaborate holiday decor. With a little ingenuity, however, I've created a lovely holiday-themed apartment. A miniature lighted Christmas tree carefully placed on my side table greets visitors as they enter my home. Making good use of my front room window, I have adorned it with decor, using tinsel and garland, as well as miniature stockings hung with suction cups. As a festive alternative, you might try hanging shiny ornaments on the window in much the same way. If your apartment is designed with a staircase, decorate the banister. Use garland, tinsel, holly or even holiday greeting cards. Finally, if your apartment is furnished with a fireplace, decorate the mantel. I've placed a two-foot tall animated and musical Santa on my mantel. I hope my blog gives you some fun decorating ideas for your small home.

Driveway Sports: 3 Ways To Improve Safety & Security For Children

by Luke Patterson

A paved driveway can really expand the way your children use the area to play sports, ride bikes, and enjoy other types of activities. When your children are playing out on a driveway, you want to ensure that are safe and can enjoy the time outdoors. There are numerous ways to increase the safety of your driveway so that children can enjoy various sports and use the driveway on a daily basis. The following three driveway installations can add safety for years to come and will allow your children to take full advantage of a paved driveway area.

Automated Sliding Gates

One of the biggest safety hazards on a driveway is the end of a driveway. Open access to the road and car traffic can create safety issues. Prevent this open access by installing an automated sliding gate on the edge of the driveway. The gate can secure your driveway and block off the area for your children. When you need access to the driveway, an opener can slide the gate open and allow you to use the driveway as normal. The gates slide to the side so it offers an easy opening whether you're entering or exiting the driveway. A metal gate material can offer added security and also prevent the children from pushing through or forcing the gate open.

Retractable Driveway Nets

Even with an automated sliding gate, you may not want your children going down the whole length of a driveway. Help set up a secure playing area by installing a retractable driveway net. When children are playing, the net can be pulled out to create a cut off area on the driveway. This net will allow you to park or use another part of the driveway while the kids are playing. These driveway nets are typically made with a reflective material that makes it easy to see and clearly marks off specific areas.

Driveway Safety Sensors

Another safe measure you can add to your driveway is a safety sensor. These sensors can help protect both people trying to enter or exit the driveway area. The automated sensors can be sent to an alarm located within your house or another area. If a person attempts to walk by the sensor, it will be set off and create an audible alert. This alert can help deter the person and alert the children so they can head inside for safety as needed. The sensor can also track if a child is roaming away from the driveway or in an area where they're not supposed to be.

By planning ahead, your children can play sports in the driveway while you feel comforted with their safety and protection. Contact a company like Perimeter Security Systems for more information.
